Welcome to my blog, where you’ll find some 70 photographs of Recoleta Cemetery – all direct shots (no montage, no retouching). I didn’t set out to photograph the cemetery, but the more I visited, the more I was compelled to return. I feel somehow that it chose me, rather than the other way round. The reflections conjure a landscape in which condors break free of their obelisks, the characters in the stained glass can walk and fly, and curious symbols appear. I see a connection with something beyond our ordinary reality. I love reading your comments, so please don't be shy.
I was born in Montreal in 1967, grew up in England and live between London and Buenos Aires. Like many, I came to Buenos Aires to dance tango and fell under the spell of this city where strangers talk to you, tango music seeps on to the streets and the ornate crumbling buildings speak of grander times. I love writing and crafting words – I've worked as a sub-editor for more than 20 years – and taking photographs.
