On Friday I visited Chacarita Cemetery under a turbulent sky. Cameraless, as I went to look round with a friend. But now I have an excuse to share this photograph from almost five years ago. Friday was a full moon, so the timing seems right. I love inventing this beautifully Back-to-front world where a curve of stone inside a tomb becomes a hill – supporting the cross that’s behind me – and a fluke of light paints in a sapphire moon.
I was born in Montreal in 1967, grew up in England and live between London and Buenos Aires. Like many, I came to Buenos Aires to dance tango and fell under the spell of this city where strangers talk to you, tango music seeps on to the streets and the ornate crumbling buildings speak of grander times. I love writing and crafting words – I've worked as a sub-editor for more than 20 years – and taking photographs.
Love this.
Thanks so much, Margot. Wonderful that we’ve been to Chacarita Cemetery together, too.
Totally gorgeous photo- “love the sapphire moon!
Victoria, thank you so much for your feedback – and for taking the time to leave a comment. Yes, I like the sapphire moon as well!
