Give or take a few days, it is a year since I launched my blog. As someone who loves to celebrate birthdays and anniversaries, I felt the occasion should not go unmarked. So here is a photo I took at Recoleta Cemetery on Saturday that seems appropriate. I am calling it Speed & light.
The pattern that sweeps with such certainty towards the casket makes me think of our journey here on earth. Like the shadows and reflections that appear and shift and fade, we are here for a short while and then we are gone. Visiting the cemetery is a constant and useful reminder of our impermanence. It whispers to me to live as fully as I can, now.
Taking photos at the cemetery, writing the stories they inspire and sharing it all via my blog is a huge creative pleasure. I am expressing myself, which is part of living fully – and that is definitely something for me to celebrate.
I was born in Montreal in 1967, grew up in England and live between London and Buenos Aires. Like many, I came to Buenos Aires to dance tango and fell under the spell of this city where strangers talk to you, tango music seeps on to the streets and the ornate crumbling buildings speak of grander times. I love writing and crafting words – I've worked as a sub-editor for more than 20 years – and taking photographs.
Congratulations! You should be proud of your beautiful images and the thoughtful text that accompanies them.
Congratulations Julie-Anne!
Love this image. Yes. You know I am with you on this theme… living fully, connecting with the great creative flow and with the now, in every second that we breathe on this earth.
Your photographs, and the writing they inspire, show me beauty beyond what I might normally see; I am so glad you started this blog and that you continue to share your he(art) with us all.
Happy anniversary!

Felicidades, Julie-Anne,
Oh, and you are so living fully; I believe you live in the realm of the divine.
You see it, you create it, and you live it. How wonderful!
Much love,
Barbara

Happy first birthday to the blog! Your photos are always beautiful but the last couple you’ve posted have been exceptionally gorgeous. I love this one, the geometric shadows are so abstract and modern compared to the curly filigree of the lamp post.
Here’s to the next year of fully-conscious living and creativity! Helen
Happy Birthday Blog! Live for the moment and in the moment. I totally agree. Julie-Anne, your photos and words are a constant reminder to us all of how fragile yet beautiful life is. Thank you for being such a refreshing source of inspiration!
Katie, thank you so much – I really appreciate your comment. And, yes, I am proud of my photos and words.
Sally, how wonderful to receive this feedback from you – the person who inspired me to have a blog in the first place, then helped me get it up and running. Huge thanks to you, my dear.
Thank you, dear Barbara. I believe the realm of the divine is in us and all around us. I especially feel it and connect with it at the cemetery. It’s wonderful you see that in the world of my blog.
Tracy, thanks for taking the time to read/look at them – and to share your reflections on my reflections…
Congratulations Julie-Anne!for this manifestation! You inspire me to create and grow in my own search and art, thank you!Your reflections are as beautiful as you are, you are totally reflected in what you do, lots of love! tot
Hello Jenny, thanks so much for the birthday wishes and beautiful words.
Helen, thank you for your birthday wishes and continuing support for my blog. Interesting that you especially like the last few photos – I seem to be drawn to soft-coloured scenes of late. Hear! hear! to the conscious living and creativity.
Hello Caroline, super to get your feedback. Thank you. I had no idea when I started the blog a year ago that it would allow me to write about such subjects. Amazing how things evolve when you let them.
Tota, who knew this would be my form of artistic expression when I came to you back in 2005! As always, thank you for guiding me to unleash my creativity. And thank you for these incredibly beautiful words. Sending much love
Hello Julie-Anne
I love your photos – they are very beautiful. There’s something magical about graveyards and poor broken angels. Hope I see you when you come to the UK. Remember “Every dog has his day”?

Oh, thank you Helen. It’s lovely to think of people far away looking at my photos of Recoleta Cemetery. Perhaps we could go to a London cemetery together when I’m back. Would be wonderful to see you.
