This is the stuff of storybooks filled with enchanted tales of faraway lands. The image reminds me of the vivid colour plates in The Children’s Golden Treasure Book that I prized as a child, and which my mother had cherished before me. I rather suspect that I gazed at the pictures more than I devoured the stories, as she did.
I was under the spell of this Guardian angel from the moment I glimpsed her in Recoleta Cemetery on Tuesday, shining out of the darkening afternoon. Two remarkable reflections: the orange street light giving extra brightness to the angel’s lamp, and the apartments landing under the protection of her wings. I wonder if the occupants of the ordinary-looking block of flats across the street realise they have such an extraordinary being watching over them?
I was born in Montreal in 1967, grew up in England and live between London and Buenos Aires. Like many, I came to Buenos Aires to dance tango and fell under the spell of this city where strangers talk to you, tango music seeps on to the streets and the ornate crumbling buildings speak of grander times. I love writing and crafting words – I've worked as a sub-editor for more than 20 years – and taking photographs.
This is lovely – and it’s a great invitation to reflect about favourite childhood reads…
Very beautiful image julie Anne. Have you
considered taking some images on a full moon
evening? Mx
A very, very moving image, Julie-Anne. I wish you that this guardian angel may watch over you at all times. Lots of love, Uta.
Thanks, Amanda. Good to know it got you thinking, too. When we next speak, let’s compare notes!
Thank you so much. Nice idea, but the cemetery always shuts at 6pm, so no night-time photos possible there, alas.
Uta, I was delighted to read your feedback – thank you. So pleased you like the guardian angel. And may yours be watching over you, my friend.
This is beautiful image Julie-Anne! It really grabs your attention and draws you in. The lighting and the reflection give it a lot of depth.
I like the way you personalize it with your comments.
Bob, thank you, as always. This is one of my favourite photos – and windows – so far. Writing about the images is so enjoyable. Sometimes I don’t know what’s going to come out until I start.
These images must be seeping into you. This guardian angel is a gentle one. You carry her blessings.
What a lovely thought, that I carry her blessings. Yes, indeed, I dream about the images and they’re often in my mind.
