They seemed to float out of nowhere. I was on one of my afternoon wanders around the cemetery and felt a pull to explore an alley near one of my favourite windows (my Christmas angel – I’ll introduce her to you another time). Suddenly, I happened upon Jesus & Mary Magdalene in this exquisite strip of a stained glass window, soaked with light. Tears in my eyes, I stood spellbound.
A glimmer of a reflected column takes the focus to Mary, draped sensuously over Jesus, with her swathes of scarlet and saffron fabric, exposed shoulders and rippling hair. The scene is stretched wide and shallow and positioned high in the otherwise dark tomb, giving the impression that the figures are suspended, as if by divine act of levitation.
I was born in Montreal in 1967, grew up in England and live between London and Buenos Aires. Like many, I came to Buenos Aires to dance tango and fell under the spell of this city where strangers talk to you, tango music seeps on to the streets and the ornate crumbling buildings speak of grander times. I love writing and crafting words – I've worked as a sub-editor for more than 20 years – and taking photographs.
JA – these are amazing!! And your writing delightful. Am looking forward to more xx
Fabulous that you enjoyed the photos and the writing – thank you for letting me know. Oh, there will be plenty more – spend rather a lot of time in the cemetery!
